Susan Rollins is a dynamic personality with a strong track record in the corporate, non-profit, and educational industries. In all settings Rollins has focused her energy on inspiring the people she has worked with and the institutions she has led to think in a way that creates positive outcomes.
As the Director of the Housing Authority of St. Louis County, Rollins steered the Authority through the American Recovery Reinvestment Act of 2009. Rollins worked with the St. Louis County Government to develop a strategy to use those funds to stabilize housing in low- and moderate-income neighborhoods. Under Rollins leadership, the Authority used its power to purchase numerous parcels of land on behalf of St. Louis County, and later oversaw the rehabilitation of many of those units. In 2010 Rollins successfully led the Authority through sequestration. Rollins’ fiscal skills ensured the Authority was able to continue providing services to its clients.
In 2019 Rollins orchestrated a very complex voluntary conversion plan on behalf of the Wellston Housing Authority that was managed by HUD for 25 years. Rollins’ vision and collaboration with HUD Secretary Carson, created an opportunity for the Municipality of Wellston to re-envision its community.
Prior to her years in the housing authority industry Rollins served in leadership positions in the banking industry and in local government.
In her twelve years as an Assistant Dean at Washington University, Rollins advised undergraduate and graduate students. She inspired her students to go beyond the classroom experiences and dedicate themselves to caring about the community. Using her extensive network she was able to provide her students with internships and other experiences that shaped their futures.
In December 2020, Rollins retired but her energy and continued interest in working with others propelled her to start her consulting firm, Bird's Eye View Consulting. Her firm has a consulting contract with Nan McKay & Associates, a national firm providing services to housing authorities. Her focus is working with companies and individuals wanting to reach that next level of growth. Rollins is also a model and spokesperson for Walking Cradles.
Rollins is a graduate of Wellesley College and has a Master's in Business Administration from the Stern School at New York University.
